    La Roche-Posay Review

A couple of weeks ago I signed up for Influenster,a site that will send you free products if you fill out surveys and reviews. I didn’t think I would get a box so soon but I did! They sent me three La Roche-Posay products which were all up my alley because they control acne and oily skin. I’ve been wanting to try this skincare line but never got around to doing it and now I had the perfect opportunity. This cream spot treatment dried up my pimples overnight–it’s no joke! This might become my #1 spot treatment. The only downside is that it is extremely drying, so use sparingly; too much…

Has anyone else dealt with beauty shaming?

Can we please stop the beauty shaming?   I first encountered this phenomenon as a young teenager when I was told I should put on makeup before going out. The funny part was that I was wearing makeup at the time and thought I looked pretty darned good. It was a weird thing to say but I didn’t pay much attention since the person telling me this was in no way a role model from whom I would take advice.   Skin, or maybe it should be called complexion, shaming is another unpleasant thing that needs to stop. I’ve been skin/complexion shamed and connected it to my acne flare-ups. It…

    Movies with Foodies

I am one food-loving-blob as you can tell by looking through my Instagram posts. After skincare, food is my next love. I started cooking at 12 but I am by no means a chef or expert on food, just a person who loves to eat and try new cuisine every chance I get!  I have fond memories of watching cooking shows on PBS with my mom (we didn’t have cable). But there is nothing I love more than a good food film. I still have not seen all the best ones out there but here are the ones I absolutely can’t get enough of:   Chocolat This is the ultimate…

    Pour Moi Review

After showing my curiosity for Pour Mois skin care products a couple of weeks ago, they took notice and generously sent me not only the Desert Day Cream I wanted to try but their Hydrating Balancer-White Serum and Temperate Climate Day Cream with it.   I’ve been trying to find a good lightweight day cream for a while, one that balances my oily/combination skin. So the second I received these I began using them in my morning routine. Before Pour Mois, that routine consisted of washing my face, then applying sunscreen and makeup, so there was a gap that needed to be filled.   First I sampled the Hydrating Balancer,…

    Schmidt’s Natural Review

A couple of weeks ago Schmidt’s Natural reached out to me and offered to send me a selection of their awesome all-natural products. An amazing selection of deodorants, toothpaste and soaps soon arrived in my mailbox, and I lost no time in sampling each one. Schmidt’s is a company that prides in leaving out the “unnecessary stuff”. But what they leave in! Each item has its own unique aroma and flavor profile. I have my favorites, and there’s enough variety to please just about everybody. In Schmidt’s Naturals own words from their website: “ We look to innovative botanical and mineral-derived ingredients when developing our formulas and believe that natural…

    MakeupDrop Review

Last week I received two cute makeup applicators from MakeupDrop. Here they are: I’m so happy they sent me these, it’s about time I tried new makeup applicators! I love a time-saving approach to makeup application, and what’s great about the MakeupDrop design is that it covers a large amount of surface area pretty quickly. Another aspect I look for in a makeup applicator is how often I will need to change it. This tool is meant to be long-lasting–it’s made of silicone so all you have to do is wash it with soap and water and it’s clean! I’ll wash my makeup tools frequently, especially the ones that come…

    Saranghae 5-Step Routine Review

Saranghae is a Korean skincare company. Saranghae also means “I love you” in Korean. They certainly showed me some love a few weeks ago when they sent me their 5-step skin care kit to try out. The packaging is lovely and very luxurious, and I am so grateful for their generosity. Before trying something new on my skin I like to learn about the ingredients. I started with the Saranghae website, which states: “We are the first company ever to study and commercialize the healing and anti-aging benefits of the Sang Hwang (Phellinus Linteus) mushroom.” This mushroom is the main ingredient in Saranghae products. It’s found in Korea, China, and…

    Tools of the trade

The skincare industry is moving towards the future when it comes to the tools we use on our faces.  Although I haven’t personally tried every laser and magic wand out there I have been trying to keep up with the ones that have a lot of people talking and that are in my price range. Here are some I use: The pimple popper aka comedone extractor: OK, so this one is not a tool I would recommend for the compulsive skin picker like myself. But I have to say it helps me target some parts of my skin without doing the damage I would normally do without it. It’s precise…

Three websites that are replacing the dermatologist’s office

The search for the perfect skincare regime is a never-ending quest for me, and lately, it is stronger than ever. I leave no source unexamined and will go to the ends of the earth to find, try or just learn what’s out there when it comes to taking care of the old epidermis. That being said, my recent ventures into the interweb for the newest in skin care treatments yielded quite a lot of new information. But before I tell you about my virtual experience with dermatology professionals you should know that I am all too familiar with the human ones. Some of them made me doubt the medical profession…

    Aquis Hair Review

Last week Aquis Hair generously sent me their Aquis Lisse Luxe Turban to test. I was really excited to try something so different! I am not one to fuss with my hair (too much) so this seemed totally up my alley because their philosophy is to get you to focus on other things in your life besides your tresses, #dogoodnothair. Which I am all about – multitasking! According to the website, “Lisse Luxe Turbans quickly and gently dry strands to a damp stage, with less friction, to minimize frizz and damage – all hands-free.” That’s exactly what it does–it’s super easy and handy because the turban is designed to twist…
