I’m really excited about today’s #beautybabble! Kim @kimonskin is very inspiring. She talks about beauty, skin care, and her struggle with dermatillomania.
Let’s get to it!
BB: Tell me, what are your all-time favorite beauty products for face, body, and hair?
K: My favorite products currently are:
Body – Sweet Almond oil
Hair – Avocado oil
BB: I am obsessed with using oil for every part of my body! When you get the chance to be alone, what is your favorite thing to do for self-care?
K: As a sufferer and advocate for dermatillomania (a compulsive skin picking disorder), I can often struggle with being alone, especially if near a mirror and/or bright lights. For this reason, my favorite thing to do is to prioritize meditation. I use an app called Headspace and aim for 3 x 10-minute sessions daily. It creates new thought-patterns over time and helps ease urges to pick.
BB: I suffer the same exact issue with skin picking, I always mentally prepare myself before being alone. Here’s the third and trickiest question: If you were a food or drink what would you be?
K: If I were a food or drink, I’d be a milky cup of tea in a mug. How boring is that? But I like how in my culture and others, it’s a natural stress reliever and we always associate calming a difficult situation or conversation with a cup of tea. I’d like to think I can help others in this way – being a comfortable stress reliever and helping hand during hard times and daily struggles.
Thank you so much, Kim, for sharing your personal journey with skin picking. I really appreciate how open you are about it. For people like myself, this helps us feel less alone with a disorder that can be very isolating. I can’t wait to see more of your content!
